Delhi Police Crack High-Profile Burglary Case Of New Friends Colony, Arrest Housekeeper With 1 Crore Stolen Items

New Delhi: The Anti Narcotics Squad (ANS) of Southeast Delhi has cracked a high-profile burglary case in New Friends Colony, recovering stolen items worth a whopping Rs 1 crore. The accused, identified as Sumit, a 33-year-old housekeeper, was arrested by a dedicated police team led by Inspector Vishnu Dutt. According to the police, the accused, Sumit, a resident of South Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar, had been working as a housekeeper at the complainant's residence.
The dedicated police team under the leadership of Inspector Vishnu Dutt (Incharge Anti-Narcotics Squad), which included SI Nagendra, SI Satyanarayan, SI Ajeet, and others, worked tirelessly to solve the case. Under the supervision of ACP JS Mehta, they gathered evidence and pieced together the events surrounding the burglary. The accused was presented before the court and sent to judicial custody.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Southeast Delhi) Ravi Kumar Singh, Sumit had no prior involvement in any criminal activities. The preliminary inquiry revealed that Sumit had conspired in the burglary, taking advantage of his position as a housekeeper at the complainant's residence.

The DCP stated that after the arrest of the accused, the police recovered four high-value wristwatches, two solitaire rings, one chain with a pendant, seven bracelets, one necklace, four pairs of earrings, and cash worth Rs 13,500 from Sumit's possession. The total value of the recovered items is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore.
The accused, who had been working at the residence, exploited his knowledge of the family's schedule to execute the crime, stealing luxury items and cash.

DCP Singh said, “On March 4, 2025, Mr. Ameer Gupta, a partner in an esteemed private firm reported an incident of burglary at his residence located in New Friends Colony East. He stated that he, along with his family, had been out of town between February 26 and March 3, 2025. Meanwhile, somebody had broken into their house and taken away their valuable belongings, including watches, jewellery items and cash.”
On information, the police registered a case under relevant sections and the investigation was taken up by the Anti Narcotics Squad (ANS) of Southeast District.
The police team reviewed CCTV footage, interrogated 22 domestic staff members, and analysed their call detail records (CDRs). The team's efforts paid off when they identified Sumit as the prime suspect. He had used a screwdriver to break into the digital locker and had fled to an unknown location. However, on March 8, the team apprehended him from Peepal Chowk in Ambedkar Nagar. The police team recovered cash and other valuable items from the accused.
During interrogation, Sumit revealed that he had committed the crime out of greed, taking advantage of his employer's absence. He had no prior involvement in any criminal activities.
