New Delhi: Incessant heavy rain in the national capital on Friday caused severed waterlogging in several areas, including outside the residence of SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav at Lodhi Estate area. The area got completely waterlogged, leaving no scope for vehicular movement. The area houses several dignitaries including, Union Ministers and MPs.
The severe waterlogging led the MP to take help from his staff member who lifted him up to his car so he could avoid the rainwater. This happened while he was heading to Parliament. A visual has emerged from the scene wherein a group of people can be seen carrying him to his car. The video has triggered a controversy.
Speaking on the waterlogging in the area, the SP MP said, “NDMC is not prepared. The rainfalls are late, still they didn't clean the drains...If the drains are cleaned, this situation would never occur. A NITI Aayog member, ministers, MoS Home, other ministers, Navy Admiral, General live here. But commuting is difficult when it is waterlogged.”
He said that water had entered his residence and that he had been speaking with NDMC officers since 4 am but the water was not pumped out.
Speaking about the help he took from his staff to reach his car, he said, “ You can see what I had to do to go to Parliament. I have been speaking with NDMC officers since 4 am. They should pump out the water, water has entered our residences...”
Soon after the video emerged, BJP leader Amit Malviya hit out at him, saying, "Exploitation of people is socialism."
