Kolkata: In another blatant attack on press freedom in Mamata Banerjee 's ruled state, Republic Bangla crew was heckled, pushed and detained at the Jadavpur University as they were reporting on a protest inside the institute that was continuing for a week. Republic Bangla reporters Pinki and Bhaskar were locked up at the registrars office, while another reporter Hridita was heckled by the university students and staff members.
Shocking visuals showed a brazen attempt by Jadavpur University staff, students to attack, threaten, manhandle Republic Bangla crew when they tried to confront and asked questions to university officials.
Even after being manhandled, threatened, Republic Bangla reporters stood tall and undeterred by the hooliganism and bullying inside Jadavpur University campus.
Dramatic moments captured on Republic Bangla cameras showed women reporters being pulled, pushed with force by Jadavpur security staff, students as the team was reporting inside the campus.
As the Republic Bangla team was doing its job and reporting on the campus, the students and some staff members of the institute's security heckled, pushed, threatened and even tried to break their cameras.
The full blown hooliganism and physical assault on Republic Bangla crew showed the encircling, attacking by usual un-electables at the Jadavpur University.
The entire episode exposed the lawlessness in Mamata's Bengal as the press was trampled on with outright impunity. The Republic Bangla crew was ambushed as a goon-like behaviour was on a pure glory at the Jadavpur University campus.
All the heckling, pushing of Republic Bangla crew displayed how there is a freeplay to attack the press in Mamata's Bengal.
The big question here is will Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee take action against this anarchic hooliganism at the Jadavpur University or endorse the incident.
