Srinagar: A fierce exchange of gunfire erupted between the security forces and the terrorists in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, following a search operation in the area. As per latest information, one terrorist has been killed.

A senior police officer confirmed to Republic TV that, based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in Krumbhoora, Zachaldara Rajwar, a joint team of security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation to neutralise the threat.

This development comes just a day after terrorists attempted to target security forces by planting a pressure cooker IED, which was successfully detected and destroyed by the joint forces before it could cause any damage.

As the search operation intensified, the hiding terrorists opened fire, sparking a fierce gun battle. The operation is still underway, with additional reinforcements deployed to ensure all escape routes are sealed. As per official sources, two to three terrorists are holed up in the area. The cordon-and-search operation is in progress.
