New Delhi: Infosys founder Narayana Murthy , amid a rising trend of Artificial Intelligence in India, has said that ordinary programmes are being touted as AI while most of them are just silly, old programmes.
Addressing a gathering at TiE Con Mumbai 2025, Narayana Murthy said that in India, it has become a fashion to talk about AI as he sees normal, old programmes being presented as Artificial Intelligence.
Explaining the basic fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Narayana Murthy mentioned about two principles which are Machine Learning and Deep Learning and applications based on these algorithms.
Murthy said that Machine Learning requires a large amount of data to predict things as it’s about large-scale correlation. While Deep Learning imitates the working of the human brain and can resolve unsupervised algorithms because it uses new branches of programs or new conditions.
Building upon this, Murthy said that the data which is unsupervised and uses deep learning and neural networks has greater potential to perform actions and mimic human behaviour better.
Narayana Murthy said that every new technology eliminates some jobs but can help and build the economy if implemented in an assisted manner.
Modi government is putting a lot of focus on Artificial Intelligence and is working on building its own AI foundational model on the likes of ChatGPT, Google's Gemini or China's DeepSeek.
There is a lot of awareness in the government about the new emerging technological events across the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a number of occasions has spoken about AI, emphasising that India has to work hard to become a leader of the digital revolution.
Last week, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled India AI compute portal, AIKosha and other AI initiatives on IndiaAI Mission anniversary to enable India’s AI research and innovation ecosystem.
The IndiaAI Compute Portal launched for providing accessible and affordable AI compute, network, storage, platform, and cloud services.
AI Competency Framework has been released to equip public sector officials with skills related to AI competency mapping, and upskilling initiatives.
