Mumbai: Four contract workers died of suffocation while cleaning a water tank at an under-construction building near Good Luck Motor Training School, Mint Road, Nagpada, on Monday.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) rushed the workers to JJ Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The incident was reported around 11-11:30 am from the Bismillah Space building on Dimtimkar Road in Nagpada, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Hasipal Shaikh (19), Raja Shaikh (20), Jiaulla Shaikh (36), and Imandu Shaikh (38), while a fifth individual, Purhan Shaikh (31), is currently recovering.

According to an official from JJ police station, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine any lapses by those who hired the five workers and whether safety protocols were followed.
The official added that further action will be taken based on the probe’s findings.

Personnel from the Fire Brigade, BMC, and police are present at the site as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and local police have reached the scene, and an investigation is underway, according to a police official.
