Ghaziabad: One worker was killed and two others were injured after the roof of a three-storey hardware shop collapsed in the Loni Border area of Ghaziabad on Monday evening, triggering a major rescue operation.
The incident took place around 4-5 pm at Paras Steel, a hardware and sanitary shop in the iron market at Gulab Vatika under the Loni Border police station area. According to police, three workers were carrying out labour work in the rear portion of the shop when the roof suddenly collapsed, trapping them under debris and material stored above.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ankur Vihar) Amardeep Kumar Maurya said the shop is owned by Abhishek Jain, a resident of Delhi's Jyoti Nagar. His family member Kunal Jain was reportedly sitting at the counter when the incident occurred.
Following information about the collapse, the Tronica City Fire Station immediately dispatched a fire tender stationed at Loni Water Police Station for standby duty. A second fire vehicle was sent from the Tronica City Fire Station, while a Disaster Rescue Van was deployed from Vaishali Fire Station.

Fire and police personnel found that the roofs of the mezzanine and first floors of the three-storey building had collapsed. Six people were present in the building at the time, of whom three were trapped under the debris.
Rescuers managed to pull out two people who had suffered minor injuries and rushed them to hospital. One worker remained trapped deep inside the debris.

A JCB was brought in to clear the debris and stored material, while walls on both sides were broken to create access to the trapped worker. After nearly two hours of intensive rescue efforts, the worker was extricated and taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. He was later referred to GTB Hospital in Delhi.
The worker subsequently succumbed to his injuries, police said.
An NDRF team also reached the spot and conducted a thorough search of the premises using a Type-2 life detector and a dog squad. After ensuring that no other person was trapped beneath the debris, the authorities secured and closed the shop.
The exact cause of the roof collapse is being investigated.
