New Delhi: In a good news for the Members of Parliament (MPs), the Centre on Monday announced a revision in their salaries, allowances, and pensions, giving a substantial 24% hike in the monthly salaries of current MPs. The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, also included an increase in daily allowances for sitting members and enhanced pensions for former MPs.
The new adjustments have been implemented under the provisions of the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act.
- Monthly Salary: The salary for MPs has been increased from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000.
- Daily Allowance: MPs will now receive a daily allowance of ₹2,500, up from ₹2,000.
- Pension for Former MPs: The monthly pension for former members has been raised from ₹25,000 to ₹31,000.
- Additional Pension: The additional pension for every year of service beyond five years will now be ₹2,500 per month, up from ₹2,000.
The announcement of salary hikes at the Centre coincides with the Karnataka government’s approval of a 100% salary increase for its Chief Minister, ministers, and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
Under the Karnataka Ministers' Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, the Chief Minister's salary will now be ₹1.5 lakh per month, double the previous ₹75,000. Similarly, ministers' salaries will rise by 108%, from ₹60,000 to ₹1.25 lakh.
