Chennai: In a welcome move for Indian Railway passengers, a new train service between Tambaram and Mandapam via Tiruvarur and Thiruthuraipoondi is expected to be sanctioned soon, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Thursday.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the new train will be flagged off during Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's upcoming visit to Tamil Nadu on Ram Navami , April 6.
PM Modi will visit the state to inaugurate the new Pamban bridge, an engineering marvel, and offer prayers at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram. The Prime Minister's visit to Tamil Nadu will follow the conclusion of his bilateral visit to Sri Lanka.
The upcoming train service between Tambaram and Mandapam will pass through key stations, including Villupuram, Tiruppadirippuliyur, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Pattukottai, Arantangi, Karaikkudi Junction, Sivaganga, Manamadurai Junction, and Rameswaram.
At present, six trains are already running between Tambaram and Mandapam. The distance between these two destination is approximately 500 kilometers.
