Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government on Wednesday announced two massive expressway projects worth ₹96,240 crore to improve infrastructure and connectivity across the state. Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma revealed the plans during discussions on Budget demands in the Gujarat Assembly.
The Namo Shakti Motorway, a 430-kilometer highway, was estimated to cost ₹39,120 crore and would connect Deesa in Banaskantha to Pipavav. Meanwhile, the Somnath-Dwarka Motorway, stretching 680 kilometers, was projected at ₹57,120 crore.
The government allocated ₹520 crore from the newly created ₹50,000-crore Developed Gujarat Fund in the next fiscal year to kickstart these ambitious projects. “These expressways are crucial for enhancing connectivity across the state and promoting economic growth,” Vishwakarma said.
Phased Approach for Development
The first phase included finalizing the expressway alignments within the next six months. After that, a detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared, a process expected to take one year. The extent of private land acquisition would be determined after the DPR was completed.

Gujarat already had an extensive road network of over 1.11 lakh kilometers, including national highways, state highways, and rural roads. In the 2024-25 Budget, the government earmarked ₹10,045 crore for road construction, expansion, and maintenance, reinforcing its commitment to infrastructure growth.

Strengthening Gujarat’s Transport Network
The Gujarat government was also focused on completing the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, a key part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, which was expected to boost trade and commerce.
Additionally, initiatives like Bharatmala Pariyojana and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) had played a vital role in expanding rural road networks.
To ensure efficient and safe transportation, the state was investing in smart road technologies, including intelligent traffic management systems and enhanced safety measures. These expressway projects were set to transform Gujarat’s connectivity and economic landscape in the coming years.
