Kolkata: BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has warned that if the opposition wins the election, Hindus in West Bengal could face extinction.
Speaking at a BJP event in North Barrackpore, Mithun urged Hindus to take pride in their Sanatani identity and actively participate in the electoral process. Citing Bangladesh 's example, Mithun emphasised that failing to do so could lead to an existential crisis for the community.
“I don't know whether Hindu Bengalis will remain in West Bengal if opposition wins the election… I'm requesting Hindus to come out and vote,” Mithun Chakraborty said.
Mentioning about atrocities on Hindus in the neighbouring country, Mithun Chakraborty alerted the community saying that have already seen the trailer in Bangladesh of how minorities are being treated there, in wake of a political unrest and urged Hindus to come out and vote.
“9 per cent of Hindus don't vote. I am shouting and requesting to please vote. Bangladesh has showed you a trailer. After this, whether the Hindu Bengalis remain in West Bengal is a big question. Be very careful," he said.
Mithun Chakraborty, who is known as BJP's firebrand leader in West Bengal, told people belonging to the Hindu community that they were not aware of meetings taking place between opposition leader that would give them chills and asked them to be ready to fight for existence if they win the elections.
"You are unaware of the meetings which are happening… meeting that I cannot tell here. It's of the opposition. The meetings they are having would have given you chills. That will come out on the market in a few days. I am requesting the 9 per cent Hindus to come out and vote. This is the fight of our existence,” the BJP leader said as he urged Hindus to come out and participate in the electoral process.
Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, who is also known as India’s disco-dancer, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal.
Mithun Chakraborty received a rockstar entry in the saffron party in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kailash Vijayvargiya. Being a local, he amplified BJP’s poll campaign against Mamata Banerjee -led Trinamool Congress .

The next Assembly elections in West Bengal are due to be held next year 2026 between March and April.
