How Ranjani Srinivasan ‘Advocated Violence & Terrorism’?

The Department of Homeland Security reported on Friday that Ranjani Srinivasan was linked to activities supporting Hamas, which is recognised as a terrorist organisation.

An Indian national, Srinivasan had travelled to the United States on an F-1 student visa to study for a doctorate in Urban Planning at Columbia University, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security on Friday. The department’s statement mentioned her alleged involvement in supporting Hamas.

On 5 March 2025, the US Department of State revoked her visa. The department later confirmed that she left the country on 11 March 2025 using the CBP Home App, with video evidence of her departure.

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that holding a visa to study and live in the US is a privilege. She added that if an individual supports violence and terrorism, this privilege should be withdrawn, and they should not be allowed to stay in the country. Kristi Noem expressed approval that the Columbia University student, accused of supporting terrorism, used the CBP Home App to leave the country.”
