Hyderabad: A 23-year-old police constable, identified as Jarpula Saikumar, allegedly died by suicide while on duty at the LB Nagar ACP office in Hyderabad on Wednesday, triggering protests by his family members and relatives.
Saikumar, who was attached to the LB Nagar Police Station, had reportedly been working at the ACP office since last month. According to information available, he had reported for night duty and was performing his duties at the police premises.
The incident came to light after staff from the DCP office attempted to contact the ACP office regarding a Daily Situation Report (DSR) but received no response. The matter was subsequently communicated to personnel at the LB Nagar Police Station.
Head Constable Venugopal, who was the section in-charge, reportedly reached the ACP office at around 2:30 pm to check on the situation. Saikumar was subsequently found dead inside a restroom at the premises.

Reports from Telangana Today and Deccan Chronicle confirm that police found Saikumar dead at the station and that his body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The precise circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Family alleges harassment by senior officials

Saikumar's death has led to anger among his family members, who have questioned the circumstances of the incident and demanded a detailed investigation.
The family has alleged that Saikumar was subjected to harassment by senior police officials and that he may have taken the extreme step after being unable to bear the alleged harassment. The allegations have not yet been independently established, and police are investigating the circumstances that preceded his death.
The family has also demanded access to Saikumar's mobile phone, believing that it could contain information relevant to the circumstances surrounding his death. Telangana Today reported that relatives had sought clarity from the police over the handling of the case and the shifting of the body for autopsy.
Protest at LB Nagar Police Station
Following Saikumar's death, his family members and relatives staged a protest at the LB Nagar Police Station, demanding answers and action against those they hold responsible.
The situation reportedly escalated when some family members entered the ACP office and allegedly vandalised furniture and damaged a computer system and printer. An altercation subsequently broke out between police personnel and the protesting family members.
With tensions rising, police personnel were deployed in large numbers at the location to prevent further escalation.
Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Saikumar's death. Authorities are expected to examine the events leading up to the incident, statements from personnel present at the premises and other available evidence.
The post-mortem examination is also expected to form part of the investigation. At present, the exact reason behind Saikumar's death has not been officially established.
