New Delhi: Following the horrific car accident in Vadodara, Gujarat, which claimed the life of a woman and left several others injured, the driver involved, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia claimed that he was driving home after visiting a friend when the accident occurred. He said, "The airbag deployed suddenly, and I couldn’t see anything ahead."

He also denied any involvement with alcohol, adding that the crash happened when two or three scooters unexpectedly appeared in front of his vehicle.

The 23-year-old further argued that the automatic transmission of the car made it difficult to control in such a situation.

"I didn’t know that someone had died or that there were injuries until I was arrested. Once I’m released, I will meet the families of the victims,” he said.

However, police reports paint a very different picture. According to authorities, Rakshit was driving at an estimated speed of over 100 kmph when he lost control of his car near Amrapali Complex, plowing into multiple two-wheelers.

While Rakshit’s account of the accident pointed to poor visibility due to the airbag, investigations have revealed that he was under the influence of drugs at the time.

Police confirmed that Rakshit’s blood sample had been taken for testing to determine the type and quantity of drugs consumed.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Leena Patil, confirmed the arrest and stated, “A 4-wheeler rammed into a 2-wheeler, and one woman died in the accident. The driver has been arrested, and a further probe is underway. This appears to be a case of drug use while driving.”
