Indian States Weather Predictions: IMD issues heavy rainfall warning due to arrival of two simultaneous cyclones

Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued For These States

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall warning for many Indian states from 12th to 14th March which is predicted to continue till 15th march.

IMD issued a warning for:

Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms

  • North Eastern States: Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh , Assam , Meghalaya , and Tripura.
  • Kerala , Mahe and Karnataka: Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely.
  • Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Thunderstorms and lightning expected. Regional Meteorological Department had issued yellow and orange alert for eight districts of Tamil Nadu, namely, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Nellai, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, and Thiruvarur. The state government issues notice to schools and colleges to remain closed if situation worsens, cautions fishermen against going into sea and asks the authorities to observe any rising levels of any water bodies. 

Lightning Warnings

  • Jammu and Kashmir: Lightning predicted at isolated places and may receive snowfall.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Lightning expected at isolated places and may receive snowfall. 
  • North and North Western India: Lightning predicted at isolated places over Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab , Haryana , Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan , West Uttar Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Wind Warnings

  • Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim: Gusty winds accompanied by lightning expected.

Other Regions

  • Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep: Thunderstorms and lightning expected.
  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Thunderstorms and lightning predicted.
     

IMD Identified formation and arrival of 2 cyclones over the Regions. 

  • Cyclonic conditions developing in the lower tropospheric regions above Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh which is responsible for bringing showers in the eastern, north eastern and southern states.
     
  • The western disturbance developing over West Afghanistan will bring showers over northern and north-western regions of the subcontinent. Delhi- NCR may find relief from high temperatures if Delhi receives rainfall.
