White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has once again raised concerns about high tariffs imposed by India, Canada, and Japan on American goods. Speaking on March 11, 2025, Leavitt emphasized the need for fair trade practices, pointing out that nearly half of all medicines consumed in the U.S. come from India, and these tariffs could drive up costs. The remarks come as President Trump's April 2 deadline approaches for imposing reciprocal tariffs on India.

Officials pay tributes to 3 BSF jawans killed in Manipur accident

 Senior BSF, police and civil administration officials on Thursday paid tributes to the three border guards who were killed in an accident in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, the paramilitary force said in a statement.

The officials paid tributes to head constable Surendra Kumar and constables Bachhu Mondal and Ankul Singh of the 37 Bn BSF during a wreath-laying ceremony held at the airport, the statement added.

Delhi HC refuses bail to UAE bizman accused of terror funding

The Delhi High Court has dismissed the bail plea of a UAE-based businessman booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly funding the unrest in the Kashmir valley.

A bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur said the prosecution prima facie established that the accused aided and assisted Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali in bringing foreign money into India for furthering secessionist and terrorist activities in the valley.

The bench, therefore, rejected the plea of Naval Kishore Kapoor against a 2019 order of the trial court denying him bail.

Cops in Maharashtra's Beed not to display their surname on name plates

Police personnel in Maharashtra's Beed district will now put up their name plates without surnames, in an attempt to eliminate caste-based discrimination, an official said on Thursday.

Nearly 100 such name plates have been distributed across police stations and other offices of the department in the central Maharashtra district, the official said.

Earlier, Beed Superintendent of Police (SP) Navneet Kanwat in January directed the officials to address each other by their first name, and not surname, with an aim to curb the caste bias.

ED conducts raids in gold smuggling case involving Karnataka actor, others

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday raided multiple locations in Bengaluru and some other places as part of a money laundering probe linked to probe "larger conspiracy" into an alleged gold smuggling racket in which an actor was recently arrested by the DRI in Karnataka, official sources said.

A case has been filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) taking cognisance of a recent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR and a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) case in which actor Ranya Rao was arrested, the sources said.
