J&K: Army Commander chairs core group meeting in Srinagar, assures high-level readiness

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh chaired a meeting of the core group of intelligence and security agencies in Srinagar on Tuesday and assured a high level of readiness to thwart inimical designs, the Army said. The meeting was attended by senior Army, police and paramilitary officers and intelligence officers, the Army informed. 

The meeting took place a day after the Centre revoked some provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and proposed that the state be bifurcated into union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. 

A picture of the meeting was also posted on the Northern Command's official account.

During the meeting, the Army Commander highlighted that in the past few days, Pakistan had intensified its efforts at increasing strength of terrorists in launch pads along the Line of Control, initiating Ceasefire Violations, and pushing infiltrators across the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. He further assured that the Indian Army has been giving befitting response, thwarting the nefarious designs of causing disturbances in our country.

It was also highlighted that counter-terrorism and law & order grids had also been strengthened by the security forces. The Army Commander stated that security forces were maintaining a high state of alertness and readiness to counter any inimical designs.

Article 370 scrapped

On Monday, Home Minister Amit Shah proposed to repeal Article 370, that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, in the Rajya Sabha. President Ram Nath Kovind exercised his power under Clause 1 of Article 370 to scrap Article 370. With the order, Article 35A, which provided special privileges to “permanent residents" of the state has also been scrapped.
