Jammu-Kashmir: 1 Terrorist Killed In Sopore After Attack On Police Checkpoint

New Delhi: An exchange of fire broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. A shootout erupted in the Rafiabad area of Sopore. Security forces, including the Sopore Police and 32 Rashtriya Rifles (32RR), engaged in an exchange of fire with terrorists who had attacked a police checkpoint in Watergam Rafiabad.
During the encounter, one terrorist was killed in a joint operation by Sopore Police and 32RR. Another terrorist is reportedly trapped, and the exchange of gunfire is ongoing as security personnel continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining assailants.

The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed that the incident occurred in the Watergam area. Alert security forces quickly retaliated, cordoning off the region to prevent any escape. A search operation was currently underway.
However, official sources said a person was seen lying near the scene of the firing.
Terrorists traveling on the national highway connecting Kupwara with Baramulla district engaged in a gunfight with joint security forces who had signaled them to stop. During the exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed, and a search operation is ongoing for the remaining suspects. Senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF have arrived at the encounter site to oversee the operation.
