J&K On High Alert After Doctor, 6 Labourers Killed in Terror Attack
Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert after the Ganderbal Terror Attack that claimed lives of seven civilians on Sunday evening; NIA searches are underway.
Sonamarg: A doctor and six labourers lost their lives after terrorists opened fire in the Ganderbal area of Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir. Following the terror attack, the state has been put on high alert, security has been heightened and searches by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are underway.

Following the Ganderbal Terror Attack, a high alert has been issued in the Jammu region and security of the areas where non-locals reside, has also been beefed up. The officials have asked to strengthen the security in the entire Jammu region after the terror attack that claimed lives of seven civilians.
Ganderbal Terror Attack: NIA Searches Underway
Security forces took position & cordoned off the area in Gaganger, Sonamarg, Ganderbal, following a terror attack yesterday. Authorities have also launched a search operation to neutralize the attackers and ensure the safety of the region. It is yet to be deciphered who is responsible for this terror attack and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped in to probe this case.
‘Dastardly and Cowardly’: J&K CM Omar Abdullah on Terror Attack
Condemning the terror attack and terming it as ‘dastardly and cowardly’, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a post on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), “Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones.”
In another post on ‘X’, Omar Abdullah said that the death toll figure may change as many others are injured and undergoing treatment; the post read, “The casualty figure from the Gagangir attack is not final as there are a number of injured labourers, both local & non-local. Praying that the injured make a full recovery as the more seriously injured are being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar.”
BJP Reaction to Ganderbal Terror Attack That Claimed 7 Lives
Reacting to the terror attack, Home Minister Amit Shah called it an ‘act of cowardice’ and said, “The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also condemned the terror attack and said in a post, “I strongly condemn the horrific terror attack on innocent laborers in Gagangir, Sonamarg, Jammu & Kashmir, who were engaged in a vital infrastructure project. I offer my humble tribute to the martyred laborers and extend my deepest condolences to their families during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with the injured for a swift and full recovery.”
Calling it a ‘cowardly form of Pakistan -sponsored terrorism’, BJP leader and former J&K Deputy CM Kavinder Gupta said, “This is a cowardly form of Pakistan -sponsored terrorism. People keep from other states to earn a livelihood...Elections were held well in J&K, and a good atmosphere was formed. It wants to impact the atmosphere here. This incident is unfortunate...They wanted to show that they restarted terrorism in J&K. This is the second incident in 2-3 days. A new strategy needs to be formed. Security forces a doing a good job...I think they will be neutralised soon...”
Doctor, 6 Labourers Killed in Ganderbal Terror Attack
On Sunday evening, seven migrant workers were shot dead by terrorists in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack car carried out near an under-construction tunnel, prompting immediate responses from security forces. Officials reported that the victims were part of a construction team working on the Z Morh tunnel, which is aimed to connect Gaganeer to Sonamarg in Central Kashmir. Following the shooting, security forces reached the attack site and cordoned off the area. Further security was beefed up at the hospital where the injured were admitted for treatment.
