JKP Busts Courier Conspiracy: Ex-Lover’s Drug Plot Targets Newlywed Husband, Trail Leads To UP

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have unearthed a startling conspiracy in Ganderbal district, where a woman’s former lover allegedly attempted to implicate her newlywed husband in a narcotics case through a planted parcel delivery.

The case came to light after police received intelligence about a suspicious consignment being delivered to a poultry farmer in Safapora.

Acting swiftly, a team intercepted the parcel and recovered cocaine, charas, and diclofenac tablets. The farmer was immediately arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

However, during questioning, investigators discovered that the farmer had no prior criminal record and had married only a few months earlier.

He reportedly told police that he had received calls and messages from a Saudi Arabia-based number, which had earlier warned him against marrying his wife.

Meanwhile, police questioned the farmer’s wife. Her testimony, combined with digital evidence, helped investigators trace the conspiracy to Tariq Ahmed Sofi, a resident of Zainakote, Srinagar. Sofi allegedly confessed to orchestrating the operation, motivated by his past relationship with the woman.

Investigators also identified another suspect, Areeb from Uttar Pradesh, who is believed to have assisted in transporting the consignment. Police suspect the drugs were first moved from Srinagar to UP before being forwarded to Ganderbal, disguised as poultry feed samples. The farmer, unaware of the contents, accepted the package believing it contained feed samples.

Officials said the plan was designed to make the farmer appear directly involved in a serious narcotics offence, exposing him to severe legal consequences. Call records and other digital trails have proven crucial in piecing together the conspiracy.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police questioning additional individuals who may have played a role in transporting or arranging the consignment.

Meanwhile, authorities are also examining whether the woman maintained contact with Sofi after her marriage, a detail that could further strengthen the case against him.
