New Delhi: Justice Yashwant Varma is facing intense scrutiny after a large stash of unaccounted cash was discovered at his residence. The incident has led to a nationwide uproar in legal circles, with bar associations and lawyers across the country questioning the Supreme Court’s handling of the matter. While speaking with Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, some of India's top lawyers criticised the Supreme Court and CJI Sanjiv Khanna over the transfer of Justice Varma to Allahabad High Court.

Legal Experts Raise Tough Questions

Anil Tiwari, President of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, strongly criticised the transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma from Delhi High Court saying, “Mere bachon ka bharosa toot gaya hai, thode log talab ko ganda kar rahe hain.” He added, "Public faith is shattered. The judiciary must be transparent. If 99 per cent of judges are honest, why is the Supreme Court shielding the 1 per cent responsible for tarnishing the system?"

Delhi High Court Bar Association

Delhi High Court Bar Association President Mohit Mathur urged, stating, "There is no doubt this is a serious issue. We are always told that the bar is the judge of the judges, but in this case, the Supreme Court has already taken it up. A committee has been formed, and all details are public. Justice Verma has been known as a hardworking judge, but if the enquiry reveals wrongdoing, we should condemn him. However, premature judgment could undermine public trust."

OUDH Bar Association Expressed Concerns

The Oudh Bar Association has called for a boycott of the Delhi Bar Association in protest against the transfer of Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court. They also raised concerns over the Supreme Court’s response, stating, "Nobody is going to believe that the transfer is unrelated to the cash recovery. The lack of clear answers is raising doubts."
