Judge Cash Video: Senior SC Advocate Corners Justice Yashwant Varma With 3 Big Questions

New Delhi: In an exclusive conversation with Republic Media Network, Senior Supreme Court Advocate Nalin Kohli raised three pressing questions to Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma regarding the alleged presence of cash at his residence, which has sparked widespread controversy over alleged corruption charges. The burning issue revolves around a shocking video showing significant amounts of cash that were reportedly found at the judge’s residence, raising concerns about the judiciary's integrity.

Speaking with Republic Media's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami , Kohli said, "There are several important questions that need to be addressed. I've never heard of a large stash of cash being found in any judge's residence before. In this case, we know there was a fire incident, and the video shows large sums of money being burned," Kohli said.

1. How Do You Explain the Presence of This Cash?

Concerned about how the cash came to be at Justice Varma's residence, Kohli pointed out that it was unprecedented to find such a large stash of money in any judge's home. He said, "I've never heard of a large stash of cash being found in any judge's residence before. In this case, we know there was a fire incident, and the video shows large sums of money being burned." Kohli stressed that the judiciary holds an essential place in the Constitution and the functioning of the nation, and such a discovery raised troubling questions about potential functioning of the Judiciary.

Justice Varma’s statement, in which he denies ever placing cash in the storeroom, only adds to the confusion, as it contradicts the claims in the video showing large sums of money in the room. Kohli emphasised that this discrepancy needs to be explained thoroughly.

2. Is There a Larger Issue at Play Here?

Kohli also suggested that the presence of the cash might indicate a deeper issue within the judicial system. He raised concerns that this could be the tip of the iceberg, pointing to the possibility that this incident could reveal a larger network within the judiciary. "This presence of cash not only requires an explanation, is there a larger aspect to it?" Kohli asked.

However, Justice Varma, in his statement, has suggested that this could be part of a "conspiracy" against him.

3. How Do You Explain the Report Suggesting That the Cash Was Removed Later On?

Kohli's third question focused on an alarming report that suggested the cash found in the storeroom was removed after the fire. According to Kohli, the report by the Delhi High Court Chief Justice, Justice Upadhyaya, indicates that when a visit was made to the scene of the fire, there was no mention of cash in the storeroom.

Kohli questioned, "How do you explain the report suggesting that the cash was removed later on?" He pointed out the seriousness of the situation and the contradictions in the various reports surrounding the incident, calling for clarity on who had access to the storeroom and whether the cash had been moved after the fire was put out.

Kohli also noted that Justice Varma’s residence was a secured area with restricted movement. "This is a place that is secured by security, so movement of people is restricted, so is movement of goods," Kohli remarked. He raised concerns about how large sums of money, potentially stored in gunny bags as reported, could have been accessed without being noticed by anyone in the house or its security personnel.
