New Delhi: Cash found at Judge Yashwant Varma's residence on March 14 has deepened following the release of a video. Prominent lawyer and BJP leader Ujjwal Nikam has weighed in on the matter, asserting that a mere transfer is not enough to address the gravity of the situation.

"What we know about the hard cash found at his home makes it clear that a thorough and crude investigation is needed," Nikam stated. He emphasised that the Supreme Court must intervene decisively to ensure accountability.

“Supreme Court started an in-house investigation into the Justice Yashwant Varma matter...I would like to congratulate Supreme Court because transparency is the soul of the judiciary. I always say that the stability of any nation depends on two factors - common citizens should have faith in the currency of that country, and second, common citizens should face faith in the judiciary of that country.” Nikam said.

Stating further, he said, “What the Supreme Court website published in connection with a large amount of cash found at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, makes it seem that this is a matter of investigation. I think Supreme Court will take a firm stand. Mere transfer, suspension or termination are not enough.”

According to Nikam, transferring or suspending Justice Varma is not a solution, the case demands a deeper probe to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption.

Delhi High Court Bar Association President Mohit Mathur said, “An enquiry should be held, Judge Varma should also be given a fair opportunity to speak.”

The video, released by the Supreme Court, has triggered outrage and raised serious questions about judicial integrity. The recovery of charred currency notes has not only shocked the legal fraternity but also eroded public trust in the judiciary. Calls for transparency and stringent action are growing louder as the nation watches the cash scandal.
