On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined an oral request for an expedited hearing on a petition urging the Delhi Police to register a complaint and probe the alleged discovery of burnt cash bundles at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma.

Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, leading the bench, advised advocate Mathews J Nedumpara—one of the petitioners—to refrain from making "public statements." When pressed for an urgent hearing, the bench expressed regret, saying "sorry..." and assured the matter would be scheduled in due time.

In another development, Allahabad High Court Bar Association's indefinite strike continued Wednesday in protest against the proposed transfer of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma, who is under investigation following the discovery of a large amount of cash at his residence.

Meanwhile, the Oudh Bar Association (OBA) of the Lucknow bench urged the Centre to reject the Supreme Court Collegium’s transfer recommendation. It also called for impeachment proceedings against Justice Varma to safeguard public trust in the judiciary.

Lawyers from the Allahabad High Court Bar Association have been protesting at gate number 3 of the high court bench in Allahabad. Their opposition intensified after the Supreme Court Collegium reaffirmed its recommendation to transfer Justice Varma, prompting them to declare an indefinite strike from Tuesday.

Kerala Chief Secy Speaks Out Against 'Being Labelled Black'

Kerala Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan has spoken out against the colour and gender bias she has faced and how it still persists in society, sparking off a discussion on social media about the issue and support pouring in for her from various quarters.

In a Facebook post, Muraleedharan refers to how, since she was a child, she felt like a lesser person for being dark-skinned, till her children helped her see that black was "beautiful".

Muraleedharan, who succeeded her husband, Dr V Venu, for the post of Kerala chief secretary, said that recently her stewardship as chief secretary was compared with that of her husband's by someone who commented that -- "it is as black as my husband’s was white".

Hurt by the comment, Muraleedharan had put up a Facebook post about it but later deleted it because she was "flustered by the flurry of responses".

"I am reposting it because certain well-wishers said that there were things that needed to be discussed. I agree. So here goes, once again," she said in her post, which garnered over 1,000 reactions and has been commented upon and shared hundreds of times.

Rupee Falls 6 Paise to 85.78 Against US Dollar in Early Trade

According to forex dealers, the rupee came under pressure due to liquidity constraints, apprehensions surrounding reciprocal tariff measures, and increased month-end demand for dollars from importers.

However, the decline was cushioned by foreign fund inflows, which provided support to the rupee at lower levels.
