New Delhi: With the yearly Kanwar pilgrimage scheduled to begin on July 22, Ghaziabad administration has announced that four major routes have been identified for the traveling purpose of thousands of Kanwariyas.
According to the information released by Ghaziabad administration, Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be one of the four main routes to be used by the Kanwariyas to avoid traffic congestion.
Kanwariyas To Use Delhi-Meerut Expressway
“Since the majority of Kanwariyas return via Ghaziabad on their way back to Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, the district typically imposes travel restrictions for a period of 10 to 12 days in order to ensure smooth traffic flow,” officials said.
“Kanwariyas this year will be using four major roads while returning from Haridwar and one of them will be the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME),” they added.
The other three main routes are as follows: a 30 km route from Chhajarsi toll plaza on NH-9 to Sector 62, Noida; a 35 km route from Jani border (Meerut-Ghaziabad border) towards Tila Morh near Loni; and a 45 km route from Kadrababad (Ghaziabad-Meerut) border towards Delhi via Delhi-Meerut Road.
Diversion Plan to be drafted
District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh said that the traffic police will draw up a diversion plan as per requirement in the coming days.
“We have asked officials and different departments to get ready for the pilgrimage rush. These four routes will be out of bounds to regular traffic, especially heavy vehicles, during the peak Kanwar Yatra days. We expect the number of pilgrims to swell this year,” Singh said.
Meat Shops, Liquor Stores to close on Kanwar Route
Instructions have been given to the officials to order the closure of meat stores close to temples and masking liquor stores from view along the Kawar route. Also, UP State Road Transport Corporation will arrange an extra 200 buses for Kanwariyas.
The Kanwar Yatra is a pilgrimage organised in the Hindu calendar month of Shravana (Saavan).
