Amritsar: In a sudden political move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal met with BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla at her residence in Amritsar on Saturday. The unexpected meeting has sparked intense political speculation, with many wondering what could have prompted the AAP leader to engage with a prominent BJP figure. According to sources, Kejriwal's meeting with Chawla was a closed-door affair, lasting over an hour. While details of the discussion remain scarce, insiders suggest that it could be related to the upcoming Punjab assembly elections. Kejriwal's visit to Amritsar comes on the heels of his 10-day Vipassana retreat, which he attended with his wife Sunita Kejriwal.
After the sudden meeting between the BJP leader and the former Delhi CM the political speculations are rife. Meanwhile, the BJP has responded to Kejriwal's meeting with Chawla with a mix of skepticism and scorn. MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri downplayed the importance of the meeting, saying, "I don't know whom he met and whom he didn't, it is his personal matter."
However, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa took a more aggressive tone, suggesting that Kejriwal's meeting with Chawla was a desperate attempt to revive his flagging fortunes. "Arvind Kejriwal is going to different places. If a person fails or gets disappointed, he looks for a way. If Arvind Kejriwal is thinking of joining BJP by going to Laxmi Kanta Chawla's house, then BJP will never accept him," Sirsa said.
Sirsa also took a swipe at the AAP's criticism of the BJP's schemes, saying, "Aam Aadmi Party is frustrated. Ever since it has lost power in Delhi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is looking for a chair in Punjab and tries to divert attention. Any scheme of PM Modi gets completed on its own, there is no need of these people for it. If they want to run any scheme, then tell us when will they be able to give one thousand rupees in Punjab? When will they be able to waive off the loans of the farmers of Punjab?"
Kejriwal's meeting with Chawla is just the latest salvo in his ongoing efforts to expand the AAP's footprint in Punjab. The AAP leader has been crisscrossing the state, meeting with local leaders and addressing rallies. On March 18, Kejriwal will hold a meeting with MLAs in Amritsar, which will be attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The two leaders will then address a major rally in Ludhiana, which is expected to be a show of strength for the AAP in the state.
As Kejriwal continues to ramp up his efforts in Punjab, the BJP and other opposition parties are likely to respond with increasing aggression. Whether Kejriwal's gambit will pay off remains to be seen, but one thing is certain that the battle for Punjab's political climate is heating up.
As the AAP and BJP engage in a war of words, the people of Punjab are watching with bated breath. With the assembly elections looming, the stakes are high, and every move counts. Kejriwal's meeting with Chawla may have been a surprise, but it is unlikely to be the last twist in the latest political drama in the state.
As the situation surfaces, one thing is clear that the AAP and BJP are locked in a fierce battle for supremacy in Punjab. Whether Kejriwal's Punjab push will succeed remains to be seen, but one thing is certain that the people of Punjab will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this intense political competition.
