‘Paltu chacha kahan?’: Tej Pratap Yadav Taunts Nitish Kumar As He Takes Post Holi Scooty Ride Outside CM’s Residence In Patna

Patna: A video of RJD leader and former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav's post-Holi bike ride outside Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's residence in Patna going viral on social media. In the video, Tej Pratap Yadav, who was captured riding a scooty without a ‘helmet', was seen mocking the chief minister by calling him “Paltu Chacha". According to sources, following the Holi celebration, the RJD leader took a scooty ride along with his supporters straight to CM Nitish Kumar's official residence. As he arrived outside the CM's house, Yadav loudly exclaimed, "Where is Paltu Chacha?" - a colloquial Hindi term the RJD leaders used to mock Nitish Kumar for his frequent change of allegiances.

The incident, which was caught on camera, shows Tej Pratap, along with another man drenched in colours, riding a scooter towards the Chief Minister's residence. As they reach the gate, Yadav can be heard repeatedly saying, "Paltu chacha kahan? Paltu chacha...". The video further shows supporters following him on other two-wheelers, raising slogans as the ride continues. Notably, it is clearly seen in the video that neither Tej Pratap Yadav, nor his supports were wearing helmet while riding the scooty.

Pattern of Controversy

The Holi celebrations for Tej Pratap Yadav was appeared embroiled in controversies, including his ‘Kapda Faad' Holi to threatening a police personnel to dance to the tune of song he was singing. Earlier, in the day during Holi celebration, he was seen in another viral video, ordering a police official to dance to his song or face suspension. The clip, which has sparked widespread outrage, shows the officer complying with the RJD leader's demand amid a crowd of party workers.

"Ay sipahi, ek gaana bajayenge uspe tumko thumka lagana hai" (I will play a song, and you have to shake a leg), Tej Pratap can be heard saying, adding, “Aaj nahi thumka lagaoge to suspend kar diye jaoge” (And if you don't dance today, you will be suspended).

The BJP, JD(U), and RJD's ally Congress have all condemned Tej Pratap Yadav for his actions. While the JD(U) spokesperson stated that such behaviour has no place in Bihar, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla called it a "trailer" of what the RJD would do if it came to power.

Larger Implications

The experts believe that the incident has larger implications for Bihar politics, which is already witnessing a fierce battle for supremacy between the RJD and the JD(U)-BJP alliance. The RJD, which has been struggling to regain its footing in the state, is desperate to gain power as the Assembly elections in Bihar is nearing. 

However, incidents like these are unlikely to help the RJD's cause, analysts say. "Tej Pratap Yadav's antics are unlikely to endear him to the voters, who are looking for leaders with a sense of responsibility and decorum," said a political analyst said.

As the battle for Bihar heats up, it remains to be seen how Tej Pratap Yadav's actions will impact the RJD's fortunes. One thing is certain, however the incident has sparked a heated debate about the culture of Indian politics and the need for leaders to behave with greater responsibility and decorum.
