A government like that of Canada should be mature enough to understand that a reaction like this will follow from India. Relations between the two nations are frozen right now. There is no point in keeping a diplomatic presence there. The security of life and safety of our diplomats in Canada can be under threat. There are two main reasons why Canada reacted the way it did. The first is the vote bank politics of the Trudeau government in Canada. He is surviving on a very slim majority and his support, to a good degree, comes from the Indian origin people, especially the supporters of Khalistan. Secondly, he is playing a game of Chinese checkers. He is under a scandal in Canada for interference by China. There are reports that about 9 MPs of his party were elected by indirect, or some manner of support from China. China wanted Trudeau to win. So he is now trying to deflect that scandal by focusing on India. The government of Canada is taking unprecedented steps in international diplomacy. So they need to be prepared for reactions and counter-steps from India which will also be unprecedented in international diplomacy. By withdrawing its diplomats from Canada, India has announced its no-confidence in the Government of Canada."
 

The Government of India has decided to expel the following 6 Canadian Diplomats: Stewart Ross Wheeler, Acting High Commissioner, Patrick Hebert, Deputy High Commissioner, Marie Catherine Joly, First Secretary, Ian Ross David Trites, First Secretary, Adam James Chuipka, First Secretary, Paula Orjuela, First Secretary. They have been asked to leave India by or before 11:59 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Ministry of External Affairs said. 

Former Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Pakistan and China, Gautam Bambawale responded over the ongoing India-China diplomatic row, saying, "Canadian Government has today said that the Indian High Commissioner who is the representative of the Government of India to Canada is a person of interest in this Nijjar issue. So, that I think is a very serious allegation and it shows that the level of trust between the Canadian government and the Indian government has fallen very low. India's government has decided to withdraw from Canada. The fact that we cannot trust their safety, and security in Canada to the Canadian government anymore and that is why we are withdrawing. I think that is the right decision because this matter has gone on too long and I am afraid that the current Govt of Canada is pushing the relationship to new lows to levels which we have never seen so low before."

Scores of people, some armed with sticks, walked along the cortege of a youth killed during a Durga procession here amid cries for justice from his family and others on Monday, a day of escalating tensions that saw shops being burnt and angry crowds walking the streets. The last rites of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra, who died during the communal violence that broke out in the Maharajganj area near Rehua Mansoor village in Mahsi tehsil on Sunday, were performed amid heavy police presence.

About half a dozen people were injured in stone pelting and firing that followed after Mishra died. Police officials said the internet services have been suspended in Bahraich district as a precautionary measure. The sources confirmed three arrests in the case so far and added that a case has been registered against six identified and 24 unidentified persons for murder and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Sri Lanka's newly-appointed Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath on Monday said that Colombo will apply for membership of the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) and the New Development Bank. During an interaction with the Colombo-based Diplomatic Corps, Herath said Sri Lanka considers BRICS to be an effective partnership to realise aspiration for mutually beneficial cooperation, peace and development, through strengthened and inclusive multilateralism within the framework of the UN Charter, News 1st Lanka portal reported.

The PWD department is likely to open the Anand Vihar-Apsara Border flyover before completing the construction of a ramp planned on it near Ramprastha, Ghaziabad, officials said on Monday. The decision was taken after delays in getting permission for replanting trees that need to be felled for the construction of the ramp. A meeting was held between the forest department and Public Works Department (PWD) on Tuesday. According to the officials, the PWD sought permission to cut 66 trees on the stretch, including two on the carriageway from Anand Vihar to Apsara Border last year. As per norms, they need to plant 10 trees for cutting one.

India summoned the Canadian Chargé d'Affaires on Monday amid escalating tensions between the two nations. This follows a strong response from India to Canada's diplomatic communication regarding the investigation into the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. 

All Opposition MPs to boycott WAQF meeting 

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, first time after she took the oath of office last month, and hoped for "full cooperation" between the Centre and her government.

The Prime Minister's Office posted about the meeting on X. No further details were shared.

 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday took stock of the situation arising due to the heavy rain predicted by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, in the next four days.

He has directed the authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts on October 15, and also asked them to issue advisory to IT firms to allow their employees to work from home from October 15 to 18.

The RMC said Tamil Nadu would receive heavy rain due to a low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am today. "It is likely to become a well marked low pressure area and move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next two days," it said.

There would be enhanced rainfall activity associated with the movement of this system, the IMD said.

A 14-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by three men in Jharkhand's Godda district, police said on Monday.The three men intercepted the girl when she was returning home from a Durga puja fair at Lalmatia on October 12 and allegedly raped her, the police said.

An undertrial prisoner, who had escaped from Morigaon district jail, was found dead in a waterbody on Monday, police said.The body of the accused, identified as Abdul Rashid, was found floating in Sunduba Beel (natural waterbody) in Dewaguri village under Lahorighat police station of the district, Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das said.

A policeman and two other persons were killed and three injured in two separate road accidents in Madhya Pradesh's Agar Malwa and Chhatarpur districts, officials said on Monday.In Agar Malwa, two brothers, identified as Sunil Parmar (65) and Sanjay Parmar (60), were killed when an unidentified truck hit a stationary car on it rear side on Ujjain road at around 8 am on Monday, district hospital police post in-charge RL Pawar said.

 Anticipating a rise in pollution levels as winter approaches, the Delhi government on Monday imposed an immediate ban on the production, storage, sale and use of firecrackers across the city, effective till January 1.Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai made the announcement and urged Delhi residents to support the government's efforts to curb air pollution.

Worried about failing due to low attendance, a second-year MBBS student of a private college allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room in Safedabad town here, police said on Monday.The incident took place on October 11. No suicide note was found at the spot, they said.

 A family of four, including two children, was found dead in their home in Ernakulam district on Monday, police said. The incident occurred in Chottanikkara area. Locals discovered the bodies of the couple, both school teachers, and their children in their residence. Police were alerted by the ward member.

After nearly 40 days, the body of a man from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, who was killed in Saudi Arabia, was brought back to India, officials said on Monday.Family members of the 40-year-old victim performed the last rites on late Sunday, they said.Mohammad Shakeel, a resident of Imarti Bisen of Sadar sub-division worked as a goat herder in Saudi Arabia, Gonda District Magistrate Neha Sharma said.

Four students of a private college were among five killed when their car was crushed between two speeding trucks on the Ruma-Bhaunti flyover here on Monday, police said.The incident took place while the students were on way to their college, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Rajesh Kumar Singh said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday announced a full toll waiver for light motor vehicles at all five toll booths for entry into Mumbai.Shinde made the announcement at the state cabinet meeting in Mumbai.The toll waiver will be in force from midnight on Monday, he said.

For the first time since the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur last year, a number of MLAs of Meitei, Kuki and Naga communities are set to hold a joint meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday under the supervision of the home ministry, officials said.Three Naga MLAs will attend the meeting in the national capital, while the exact number of Meitei and Kuki legislators to participate is not yet clear, they said.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday conducted searches in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme's implementation in poll-bound Jharkhand, official sources said.

More than 20 locations in Ranchi are being covered as part of the probe.

 Police have registered a case against a man for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Monday.

The Mumbai police have arrested a 28-year-old man from Pune who along with his brother “enlisted” two of the three alleged shooters in the Baba Siddique murder case, an official said.         Police called the man, Pravin Lonkar, a “co-conspirator” and said they are on the lookout of his brother Shubham Lonkar. This is the third arrest in the case of Siddique's murder.

A New York-bound Air India flight from Mumbai was on Monday diverted to the Delhi airport following a security concern arising out of a bomb threat in the aircraft, officials said here."The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board," a senior police officer said.

Two minor girls were allegedly gang-raped while returning home from a Durga puja fair in Jharkhand's Palamu district, a police officer said on Sunday.Though the incident took place in Naudiha Bazar police station limit on Friday, it came to light on Sunday evening, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chatarpur) Awadh Yadav.

 Mumbai Police investigating the murder case of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique conducted an ossification test of accused Dharmaraj Kashyap in which it was proved that he is not minor, official said on Monday. Baba Siddiqui was shot dead by three assailants on Saturday at suburban Bandra.

President's rule was withdrawn in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the union territory.A gazette notification to this effect was issued by the Union Home Ministry."In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 73 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) read with Articles 239 and 239A of the Constitution of India, the order dated the 31st October, 2019 in relation to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall stand revoked immediately before the appointment of the chief minister under Section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019," the notification signed by President Droupadi Murmu said.

Another agitating junior doctor, who has been on fast-unto-death since October 5, was on Sunday night rushed to a hospital after his health deteriorated, an official at the medical establishment said.

Pulastha Acharya of the NRS Medical College and Hospital was taken to the hospital after he complained of severe stomach pain, he said.

With Acharya, the total number of junior doctors who have been hospitalised in the course of their fasting protest reached four.
