Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has started working on a plan to make Indore a signal-free city to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, an official release stated on Sunday.
The Urban Development and Housing Department is implementing initiatives like flyovers, underpasses, bylanes, and intelligent traffic management systems to ensure seamless movement of vehicles in the state’s commercial capital.
"The objective of this scheme is to operate traffic in the city without interruptions. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel time and help maintain smooth traffic flow," the statement read.
Uses AI for Traffic Management
To enhance traffic management, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also being used to make the system smarter and more efficient, which will help in reducing accidents.

The release also highlighted the state’s focus on public transport. Currently, 1,330 buses are being operated on urban routes across Madhya Pradesh. To promote eco-friendly transport, the government has sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for purchasing 552 e-buses under the PM e-bus service.

Additionally, infrastructure estimates for bus depots in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Sagar have been approved. Charging infrastructure has also been sanctioned for Bhopal, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Sagar.
To encourage the use of electric vehicles, the government is working on setting up 217 e-charging stations in Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur, the release stated.
