Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Friday decided to build a grand memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the historical site in Agra, where the legendary Maratha ruler was kept under house arrest by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The state budget will allocate funds for this project.
The decision fulfilled a promise made by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a program in Agra on the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj’s 395th birth anniversary. At the event, Fadnavis assured that the Maharashtra government would acquire the site and construct a memorial to honor the legacy of the great warrior king.
