Chennai: In another bid to appeal to a particular community and cater to the vote bank, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that his party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), will oppose schemes and laws that are against Muslims, emphasising that their Dravidian model will protect the rights of Muslims.
In a detailed statement, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “The DMK government, under former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Karunanidhi, announced a government holiday for Milad Un-Nabi. This policy remains in force to this day. Like our leader, late Karunanidhi, who maintained a strong relationship with Muslims and introduced many schemes for their welfare, we, the Dravidian model government, are following the same path.”
Stalin further asserted that the DMK is committed to protecting and safeguarding the rights of Muslims in Tamil Nadu.
Referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act ( CAA ), Stalin alleged that it is discriminatory against Muslims. He highlighted that the DMK had voted against the CAA in Parliament, while AIADMK MPs supported it.
Stalin criticised AIADMK's Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) for betraying Muslims, accused him of participating in Iftar programs and other Muslim organisations' events while failing to stand by the community. He reiterated that the DMK will always oppose schemes and laws that are against Muslims.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that Tamil Nadu MPs will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the delimitation issue and advocate for their demands.
Stalin’s announcement follows his leadership in an opposition meeting against the delimitation exercise which is expected to be conducted by the Centre, during which a legislative resolution was passed.
Stalin previously stated that Tamil Nadu's demands were aimed at ensuring fair delimitation. He emphasised that Tamil Nadu is the first state in India to pass a legislative resolution, convene an all-party meeting, and establish an all-India joint action committee on the matter.
