Mumbai Vile Parle Building Fire: 2 Dead, 6 Injured; Toddler Among Victims

Two people, including a toddler, died and six were injured in a fire on the 11th floor of a residential building in Vile Parle West, Mumbai, late Tuesday night. The fire broke out at Shanta Bhavan Building around 10:02 PM, affecting two flats. It spread through electrical wiring and household items over approximately 4,000 square feet.

Mumbai: Two people, including a 2.5-year-old child, were killed and six others injured after a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Vile Parle West late Tuesday night.

The fire broke out at around 10:02 pm at Shanta Bhavan Building on Baptista Road, near St Xavier School on Church Road. The blaze affected two flats-1101 and 1102-in the stilt-plus-11-storey building.

The fire spread across electrical wiring and installations, an air-conditioning unit, household items, furniture, a sofa, bed, false ceiling and kitchen utensils, covering an area of around 4,000 square feet, according to reports.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the emergency call at 10:02 pm. The fire was initially classified as Level 1 at 10:08 pm and was subsequently escalated to Level 2 at 10:16 pm. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 12:25 am and completely extinguished it by about 1 am.

Fire brigade personnel, police officials, electricity department staff, a 108 ambulance and civic ward personnel were mobilised to the spot following the incident.

Toddler, 23-Year-Old Woman Among Dead

Eight people were reported injured in the fire and were shifted to two hospitals.

Two people were taken to Cooper Hospital, where fireman Manoj Sonavane, 30, and Shivam Dwivedi, 29, were treated and discharged. Sonavane sustained injuries while responding to the fire.

Six others were taken to Nanavati Hospital. Doctors declared 2.5-year-old Abir and 23-year-old Ankita brought dead.

The other four injured persons were identified as Parth, 32, Hiren, 64, Yashasvi, 33, and Abhishek. Parth and Hiren were reported to be stable, while Yashasvi and Abhishek were treated and discharged.

Fire Cause Yet To Be Ascertained

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze and determine how it started.

The incident comes amid continuing concerns over fire safety in Mumbai’s high-rise residential buildings, with emergency responders required to tackle the blaze on an upper floor of the Vile Parle building.
