Nagpur: An extremely shocking and heartbreaking incident of child trafficking in Nagpur has come to light.
A Thane couple sold their five-day-old son for over Rs 1 lakh; accused have been arrested and a case has been registered in this matter of illegal child trafficking.
Thane Couple Sells 5-Day-Old Child for Over Rs 1 Lakh
A couple from Thane, Maharashtra has been held for selling their 5-day-old child for Rs 1.1 lakh, to a childless couple in Nagpur.
The couple was eager to adopt the boy but evaded the legal process to buy the little boy.
Apart from the couples who sold and bought the child, two mediators were also involved in the deal.
As per preliminary investigation, the couple sold their baby in financial desperation.
According to police, Sunil and Shweta Gendre sold their newborn son to the Shelke couple through Kiran and Pramod Ingle, on August 22.
The Shelke couple, who are relatives of Kiran Ingle, allegedly paid ₹ 1.10 lakh for the child and took him to their home bypassing the legal procedures required for child adoption, police said.
Case Registered, Accused Arrested
A total of six people have been arrested in the case, which includes the parents of the five-year-old boy Bhondu Dayaram Gendre and Shweta, the childless couple who paid for the baby Pournima and Snehdeep Dharamdas Shelke and the two mediators Kiran and Pramod Ingle.
A case has been registered under sections 75 and 81 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The infant has been temporarily placed in the care of a local orphanage, the officials said.
