Nagpur Violence: Tensions have been escalating in Nagpur following violent clashes that broke out on Monday evening, reportedly sparked by the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. As the situation continues to unfold, leaders including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis , have confirmed their belief that the violence was not a spontaneous outburst but a “carefully orchestrated event.”
Multiple CCTV clips, now circulating, have further supported claims of premeditation, showing signs of deliberate planning.
In a statement on Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accused perpetrators of a “premeditated conspiracy” behind the violence. During the ongoing state assembly budget session, Fadnavis elaborated that weapons, stones, and a large mob targeting specific houses were all found by police, indicating a clear, planned attack.
“The mob targeted specific houses and establishments," he said, calling for strict action against those responsible, regardless of their caste or religion. He also confirmed that a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) had been attacked with an axe, and multiple police stations had registered cases related to the unrest.
BJP MLA from Nagpur Central, Pravin Datke, who visited the site of the violence, strongly asserted that the clashes were pre-planned. Datke highlighted the strategic destruction of CCTV cameras and the targeted nature of the violence, claiming Hindu homes and businesses were specifically targeted.
"This entire thing was pre-planned," Datke said, adding that despite the early resolution of a morning clash, the evening violence seemed to have been orchestrated to provoke further conflict.
Datke also criticized the city police for what he called a "massive intelligence failure," stating that despite the area’s history of communal harmony, police negligence allowed the violence to spiral. He pointed out that Hindu-owned properties were specifically targeted during the unrest. "Hindu shops were deliberately set on fire, vehicles vandalized, and even homes and clinics were stormed," Datke noted, raising suspicions about the coordinated nature of the attack.
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that the violence was part of a larger conspiracy aimed at undermining the good work done by the Maharashtra government.
"Some people want violence and are working to divide people in the name of religion," Shinde said, adding that the state government was actively pursuing those responsible. He confirmed that both he and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde supported the view that the violence was a pre-planned conspiracy.
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske took the accusations a step further, suggesting that the opposition may have had a hand in inciting the violence.
"Opposition leaders had been predicting riots for the past few days. How did they know what was going to happen?" Mhaske questioned, accusing the opposition of orchestrating a “pre-planned riot” to destabilize the state.
