Nangal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Tuesday, declared a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh each on two wanted accused in connection with the alleged murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar at Nangal in Punjab. The accused - Harjit Singh and Kulbeer Singh - have been absconding ever since Prabhakar, also known as Vikas Bagga, was allegedly shot dead in April this year.
Prabhakar, who was the President of the Nangal unit of the VHP, was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified bike-borne men at his shop in Nangal. The incident took place when the two assailants entered Bagga's shop located near Rupnagar railway station and opened fire at him before fleeing immediately, the police said. Anandpur Sahib Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh had then said the police were examining the CCTV footage of nearby areas to find the accused. Harjit Singh alias Laddi, son of Kuldip Singh, a resident of Garpadhana village in Punjab's Nawanshahr, and Kulbeer Singh alias Sidhu, son of Sukhvinder Singh, a resident of Yamuna Nagar, Police Station Sadar Jagadhari, Haryana, are absconders in the murder case registered on May 9 this year, the NIA said in a statement.
The probe agency has also released photos of the duo. The Union Home Ministry had recommended a probe by the NIA into the case to unravel the larger conspiracy behind Prabhakar's killing.
