No Fuel For 15+ Year Old Vehicles After March 31 in Delhi; Here's Why

New Delhi: Delhi resident? Have a vehicle? Its more than 15 years old? If yes, it will no longer be able to refuel starting April 1. This major decision, announced by Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, is part of an aggressive push to combat the city’s severe air pollution.  

The announcement follows a series of high-level meetings focused on addressing pollution-related health risks. Sirsa came down heavily on the previous administration, alleging that funds meant for pollution control remained unused.

A dedicated team will identify and track non-compliant vehicles, ensuring enforcement of the fuel ban.  Beyond Vehicle Bans: Broader Anti-Pollution Measures

Delhi Govt's Other initiatives include:  

- DU Students for Greener Delhi: University students will lead a massive plantation drive to restore green cover.  

- Targeting Big Polluters: Industries and organizations contributing to pollution will be required to install monitoring devices.  

- Mandatory Smog Guns: High-rise buildings, hotels, commercial complexes, and even the Delhi airport will be required to install smog guns to reduce airborne pollutants.

- New Forests on Barren Lands: The government aims to create new green spaces to absorb pollution and improve air quality.

Delhi has been battling hazardous air pollution levels from past 4 to 5 months, with vehicles being a significant contributor. 

Residents will need to make crucial decisions about their vehicles. Will this move finally bring relief to Delhi’s choking air?
