New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said one cannot shy away from the observation that the people's trust in India with regards to politicians has decreased adding that a “crisis of credibility” arose during previous governments due to gaps in their promises and the actions taken.

Addressing party members at the launch of the BJP's membership drive, Rajnath Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra addressed the "crisis of credibility" in politics as a challenge and focussed on fulfilling what the party has promised.

PM Modi Has Addressed Crisis of Credibility

"Nobody can deny the truth that due to the differences between the words and deeds of politicians, people's trust in India's politics and politicians has decreased. The crisis of credibility that arose due to it was accepted as a challenge by PM Narendra Modi. PM Modi has always urged that the manifesto should be carefully prepared; it should not be that we are unable to fulfil what we are saying. There should not be any difference between our words and deeds," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said at BJP headquarters.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party's membership drive is not merely a formality but a significant effort to expand the party and promote its ideology.

Speaking at the launch of the BJP’s 2024 membership campaign, where he renewed his own membership, Modi highlighted that the drive and the organizational framework developed during this period would align with the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in Legislative Assemblies and Parliament. He questioned whether the membership drive could actively involve individuals who would help the party achieve a high number of female candidates being elected as MLAs and MPs, thereby ensuring the success of this vital initiative.
