Omar Abdullah Wanted Alliance With BJP in 2014, Claims Former NC leader

New Delhi: Devender Singh Rana, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party three years ago after snapping ties with the National Conference on Monday said that NC’s vice president Omar Abdullah had multiple times expressed internally that he wanted a pre-poll alliance with BJP adding that former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister is misleading the people in valley by saying that his party never wanted ties with the ruling party. 

“Omar Abdullah is trying to mislead the people of Kashmir by telling them that every political party except the National Conference is with the BJP. In 2014, when I was a part of the National Conference, we knocked on every door asking people to form govt with us as we had only 15 people. Omar Abdullah says that at the time they met Amit Shah and Ram adhav to urge them to form govt with NC. As at the time BJP had declined NC's request, they are saying all this now," Rana was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"Between 5th August 2019 and October 2021, when I was in the National Conference, many attempts were made to get in touch with BJP leadership to form some kind of association. Omar Abdullah should tell the truth. National Conference will not form govt...We have no alliance with any political party in Jammu and Kashmir," he added.

Congress will fight 32 seats in alliance with the National Conference while on 5 other seats, it will have a “friendly” battle with Farooq Abdullah’s party. 

The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will take place over three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results are scheduled to be announced on October 8.
