Ferozabad: A shocking incident of alleged honey trap orchestrated by Pakistan's IGI has come to fore in Uttar Pradesh, after an employee of an ordnance factory in Ferozabad was arrested for allegedly sharing confidential and sensitive information with an agent of Pakistan's intelligence agency. The accused, identified as Ravindra Kumar, was working at the ordnance factory in the Hazratpur area of Ferozabad district.

According to Additional Director General (ADG) UP ATS, Nilabja Choudhary, the accused was arrested after a detailed interrogation at the ATS headquarters in Lucknow. The official stated that Ravindra Kumar had passed sensitive defence-related documents to a woman handler identified as 'Neha,' a Pakistani intelligence operative.

Honey Trap Exposed

The investigation revealed that Ravindra had fallen prey to a honey trap set by the ISI. He had been in touch with Neha, who had been posing as a woman on Facebook. Ravindra had shared sensitive information with Neha, including the daily production report of the ordnance factory, receipt of stores, and other documents related to criminal circulation.

ADG Choudhary stated that the ISI module had been active for a long time and had been using honey traps to extract information from people. "They honeytrap people and extract information from them, which poses a huge threat to national security," Choudhary said.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of sensitive institutions in India. ADG Choudhary requested all sensitive institutions to maintain a minimum level of security checks on their employees. “Through you, I would request all the sensitive institutions to update their security drills, SOPs, etc., with all the officials of our vital installations and maintain a minimum level of security check on their employees so that such situations can be avoided in the future,” the ADG said.

The incident has also put a spotlight on the need for increased vigilance and awareness among employees of sensitive institutions. The UP ATS has urged all employees to be cautious while sharing information on social media and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

ISI's Honey Trap War Is Not New

The incident of honey trapping of government employee and share of sensitive information is not an isolated one. There have been several instances of espionage and honey trapping in recent years. In 2022, a Indian Navy officer was arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a Pakistani woman who had honey trapped him on social media.

In another incident, a former Indian Air Force officer was arrested in 2020 for allegedly spying for Pakistan's ISI. The officer had been in touch with a Pakistani woman who had posed as a defence analyst on social media.

ADG Choudhary said, "Such situations can be avoided in the future if all sensitive institutions maintain a minimum level of security checks on their employees."

In the latest episode, the arrest of Ravindra Kumar is a wake-up call for sensitive institutions in India, where a need for increased vigilance and awareness among employees of sensitive institutions deemed essential. The incident also underscored the threat posed by honey traps and espionage to national security.
