New Delhi: Pilgrims traveling to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine will be the happiest with the launch of direct flight services from Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport to Jammu. Until now, passengers from Delhi-NCR had to rely on trains or flights from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. With this new service, reaching Jammu and Katra, the base of the Vaishno Devi temple will become easy.
The close distance of Hindon Airport to many parts of Ghaziabad, Noida, and East Delhi makes it a convenient option for pilgrims.
The first flight on this route took off at 9:30 AM on Sunday, March 23, operated by Air India Express. The return flight from Jammu landed at Hindon at 2:30 PM. The service is expected to be a game-changer, especially with the upcoming Navratri season, which witnesses a surge in devotees heading to the holy shrine.
Every year, especially during Navratri, thousands of devotees from Delhi-NCR start the journey to Vaishno Devi. However, with the increasing rush, getting a confirmed train ticket has become nearly impossible. Reports indicate that waiting lists for Jammu-bound trains have crossed 200, with no confirmed reservations available until May 25. This has led to long queues at railway ticket counters and heightened security at stations like Ghaziabad Junction.
With flights now available from Hindon Airport, devotees finally have an alternative to the overcrowded trains.
A devotee, Omprakash from Kavi Nagar, shared his relief, stating, “I have been trying to get a train ticket to Jammu for days but couldn’t. This flight has made my pilgrimage possible.”
The Jammu route is just one of many new expansions at Hindon Airport. On March 30, flights to Bhubaneswar will commence, further increasing connectivity from the NCR region.
