Mauritius: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday immersed the Gangajal (holy water) brought from Prayagraj Mahakumbh into the Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) at Port in Mauritius and performed Aarti on its banks on Wednesday.
Speaking about his experience of depositing Ganga water in Grand Bassin, PM Modi said, “It was a very emotional feeling to return to Ganga Talao in Mauritius. Standing by its sacred waters, one could feel the deep spiritual connection that transcends borders, binding generations of people to their roots.”
Earlier today, PM Modi received the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius highest honour as a tribute to recognise the historical bond between India and Mauritius.
Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian leader who was honoured with Grand Commander of the Order in Mauritius for strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Upon receiving the honour, PM Modi wrote, “Humbled to receive the Highest National Award of Mauritius. I dedicate it to the 140 crore people of India and the centuries-old friendship between our nations.”
Prior to that, PM Modi participated in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius. He wished the people of the country saying, “Wishing the people of Mauritius continued prosperity and success as we also strengthen the deep-rooted ties between our countries.”

On the occasion of Mauritius National Day, PM Modi met his counterpart and good friend PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discussed the full range of India-Mauritius friendship. The two leaders decided to raise the partnership to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
“We talked about how we can work together in areas such as infrastructure, housing, digital technology, health and more. We also want to cover more ground in areas like AI, capacity building and sustainable growth,” PM Modi wrote on X.
PM Modi earlier expressed his gratitude to his counterpart Ramgoolam for Mauritius’ decision to confer upon him the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.
Sectors that featured prominently in the talks between PM Modi and Ramgoolam included defence, security, economic linkages, cultural exchanges and more.
During his two day visit, PM Modi also met Georges Pierre Lesjongard, MP and Leader of the Opposition in Mauritius and had a constructive exchange of views on aspects relating to boosting India-Mauritius friendship.
The Prime Minister also met Mauritius former PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
During his stay in the country, PM Modi paid homage to all those who participated in the historic Dandi March, a defining chapter in India’s freedom struggle.
Led by Mahatma Gandhi, this March ignited a nationwide movement for self-reliance and independence. The courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence of all those who took part in the Dandi March continues to inspire generations, he said.
