Politicians And Top Bollywood Personalities Mourn The Loss of Baba Siddique
Baba Siddique, NCP leader, was shot in Mumbai. Two suspects are in custody; political leaders demand accountability and security improvements.
Mumbai: In a shocking incident on Saturday evening, three unidentified individuals opened fire on Baba Siddique, a prominent leader associated with the Ajit Pawar -led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in Mumbai's Bandra East. According to police officials, the former state minister sustained grievous injuries and has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital nearby.
The shooting occurred outside the office of Siddique's MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui, located near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that two alleged shooters have been apprehended by the Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar. "One of them is from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana , while a third accused fled from the spot," the Chief Minister stated in an interview with TV channels.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis , who also oversees the home portfolio, arrived at Lilavati Hospital following the incident. Baba Siddique, a three-time former MLA who recently shifted allegiance from the Congress to the NCP, remains under medical care.
Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya expressed grave concern, stating, "Baba Siddique's murder is a matter of concern. The government should make a special team and investigate this. It seems to be a huge conspiracy. Strict action should be taken."
Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has also reached the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
Deputy CM of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar said, “I have lost my good colleague."
Meanwhile, BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain offered condolences, posting, "Deeply saddened to hear about the tragic killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique. May the Almighty give his family the strength to bear this loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them."
President of Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar said the shooting incident of Baba Siddique is regrettable, he said,"The state's collapsed law and order situation is a cause for concern. The shooting of former state minister Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, is regrettable. If the Home Minister and the rulers are going to push the cart of the state so mildly, it can be an alarm bell for the common people. There is a need not only to investigate this, but also to accept the responsibility and step down from the position of the rulers. A heartfelt tribute to Baba Siddiqui. Condolences to his family."
The Mumbai Congress also mourned the incident, sharing a post from their official handle, "The Mumbai Congress is deeply saddened by the passing of Baba Siddique Ji. His tireless service to the people and his dedication to the community will forever be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace."
NCP (SCP) leader and National Spokesperson Clyde Crasto expressed distress over Siddique's condition, highlighting concerns over law and order in Maharashtra . "The news about Baba Siddique is very disturbing. The concern here is that the law and order situation in Maharashtra is going really down and it has failed," Crasto remarked. He called for accountability from the ruling BJP -led Mahayuti alliance regarding the state's security measures.
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh : NCP National spokesperson Brijmohan Shrivastav says, “My tributes to Baba Siddique... He was fired upon by some people between 9 to 10 pm today. He was shot in the stomach. As per the information, the doctors have declared him dead... The police are investigating and some arrests have also taken place... It will soon be clear why this incident has taken place... My prayers for the departed soul.”
Senior BJP Leader & Rajya Sabha MP, Ashok Chavan reacted on the killing of Baba Siddique and said, "The news of the assassination of my close friend, former minister Baba Siddiqui is very shocking and shocking. We worked together in the legislature. We were together in the cabinet. His leadership was connected with the people and universally accepted in all societies.
I have lost a good, dashing friend in Baba Siddiqui's untimely demise. I am deeply saddened by his sudden passing. It is with a heavy heart that I pay tribute to him. His son May Zeeshan Siddiqui and his family find strength to bear this suffering."
RPI(A) chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale says, “The firing incident on Baba Siddique should be investigated. I have just come from the hospital. I met his family. Strict action should be taken against the accused.”
