Former minister Javed Mustafa Mir resigns from Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP

In another blow to Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), senior leader and former minister Javed Mustafa Mir has resigned from the party

In another blow to Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), senior leader and former minister Javed Mustafa Mir has resigned from the party.

Mir will forward his resignation to the party on Sunday, January 6, morning. Mir, who did not cite any reason for his decision to resign, said that he will consult his followers about his future course of action. The resignation of Mir follows a slew of similar resignations by some of PDP leaders in the last few months.

On December 6, former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister Haseeb Drabu resigned from PDP claiming his absence from association with the affairs of the party for a while. Drabu shared the letter on Twitter acknowledged Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said;

"Working with him made me realise that politics is not the 'last refuge of scoundrels'!.. I just hope that when history judges Mufti Saheb and his decision to ally with the BJP, it does so in the context and with the complexity that it deserves,"

The news comes two weeks after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, NC chief Omar Abdullah and Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir attempted to form an alliance, but was prevented after the Governor dissolved the Assembly in the State.  

Backing the coalition, she said that the trio of parties had found common ground over seeking dissolution of the state assembly. She went on to reference a grand alliance 'Mahagathbandhan' in the state and questioned the Jammu and Kashmir Governor.
