Karnataka crisis: CM Kumaraswamy to hold cabinet meeting at Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru

The Karnataka Cabinet meeting will be held on Thursday at Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru. As per the Chief Minister's Office, the Cabinet meeting will have all ministers as they have submitted their resignations to party presidents but not CM Kumaraswamy. 

The development came amid sources informing that Congress delegation will be meeting JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda at his residence on Thursday. Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has instructed Siddaramaiah, KC Venugopal and other leaders from the grand old party to suggest to Deve Gowda that CM Kumaraswamy should resign on Friday, when the first session of Karnataka Assembly will take place on Friday.

The situation has reportedly arisen after sources suggested Congress is expecting four more people to resign by Thursday. Sources have said that Siddaramaiah will ask HD Kumaraswamy to make his final speech and step down on Friday. Following this, the CM has called an emergency meeting of the Karnataka cabinet at 11 am on Thursday. 

On Wednesday, Congress leader DK Shivakumar who is known to be a troubleshooter for the party landed outside Renaissance hotel in Mumbai to placate the rebel MLAs and get them to return to the Congress fold. He was disallowed by Mumbai police to enter the hotel where he had booked his room as the rebel MLAs claimed a threat to security. Shivakumar,  Milind Deora and other Congress leaders were detained by the police and section 144 was imposed in the area. 

In another setback for the Congress-JD(S) coal, two more Congress MLAs Dr. K Sudhakar and MTB Nagaraj tendered their resignations, bringing the total number of resignations to 16 MLAs from the Kumaraswamy government. 

The Supreme Court too will hear the rebel MLAs plea before  CJI Ranjan Gogoi accusing the Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar of having malafide intent of trying to save minority Congress-JD(S) government in the state.
