New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal , who was recently released on conditional bail in the Delhi Excise Policy Case, has announced his resignation, calling for early assembly elections in the state. BJP Calls Delhi CM's Resignation - A PR Stunt
Reacting to Kejriwal’s resignation announcement, the ( BJP ) strongly criticized the move, labelling it as a desperate attempt to rebuild his tarnished image. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari, in a statement to ANI, said, "This is a PR stunt of Arvind Kejriwal . He has understood that his image among the people of Delhi is not of an honest leader but of a corrupt leader. Today, Aam Aadmi Party is known across the country as a corrupt party."
In his announcement, Kejriwal said that he will step down as Chief Minister in two days and will only resume the position if the people of Delhi give him a "certificate of honesty." He said that his decision to resign is driven by a desire to let the public decide his fate, saying, “Two days later, I will resign as Chief Minister. I will not sit on that chair till the people announce their verdict. Elections in Delhi are months away. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people's court. I will sit on the Chief Minister's chair only after the order of the people.”
Kejriwal also addressed questions about why he did not resign during his time in jail, despite the BJP ’s calls for his resignation. "People asked me why I didn’t resign when I was in jail. The BJP demanded my resignation, but I didn’t step down because I wanted to save the country’s democracy," he said.
