Pune Bus Rape Case: Accused's Picture Released, Police Form 13 Teams to Nab Him

Maharashtra Transport Minister directed authorities to deploy women security guards.

In the wake of rape of a woman inside a parked state transport bus in Pune, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Thursday ordered a security audit of all bus stations and depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC)

A total of 13 teams, consisting of over 70 police officers, have been deployed to different locations to nab the accused.

A dog squad has been deployed to assist in the search operation.

Pune Police have launched an extensive search operation to nab the accused - identified as Dattatraya Ramdas Gade in the Pune rape case. The police are actively searching for him in and around his village, deploying advanced technology and multiple teams to track him down. To ensure the accused is not hiding in the dense sugarcane fields near his hometown, Pune Police are using drones for aerial surveillance.

Maharashtra minister of state for Home, Yogesh Ramdas Kadam, addressed a press conference on Thursday and said that the police have taken enough action in the investigation into the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary state bus at the Swargate bus depot.

"The incident happened inside the bus stand and security is provided by ST Mahamandal. The depo manager should have been more alert," he said.

Women should feel safe wherever they go. It is important that in such cases, there should be proper investigation, strong action, quick trial and punishment. The legal system and the police have a big responsibility," Chandrachud told news agency.

The authorities have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to his arrest. 

Pune bus rape case Live updates: Pune DCP Zone II Smartana Patil told news agency ANI that 13 teams have been formed to nab the accused, adding that further investigation in the matter is underway.

"Teams have also been sent to the bus stand, railway stations and other nearby locations. We are interrogating his family and the people who was contacted by the accused. The accused's brother was questioned yesterday and today; we will question his family," Patil added.
