Rain in Delhi-NCR Slows Down Rush Hour Traffic, Office-Goers Face Hard Time
Heavy rain was witnessed in several areas, including in Munirka, Sarita Vihar, Rao Tularam Marg and RK Puram.
New Delhi: Parts of the national capital and its adjoining areas, including Noida and Ghaziabad, received heavy rain on Thursday morning, causing traffic to move slowly in some areas.
The morning showers brought much-need respite from heat and humidity, bringing the temperatures down.
Heavy rain was witnessed in several areas, including in Munirka, Sarita Vihar, Rao Tularam Marg and RK Puram. Visuals have emerged from several areas wherein commuters can be seen taking shelter under roadside sheds to avoid rain.
One of the social media users wrote on X that the Delhi-Meerut Expressway from Nizamuddin towards Ghaziabad had waterlogging at many places in central lane, asking authorities to take swift actions. He wrote, "@NHAI_Official @nitin_gadkari The delhi meerut expressway from Nizamuddin to ghaziabad has water logging at many places in central lane , resulting in risk to vehicles and traffic slow down, this needs attention to work on releasing the water from such points for safety (sic)."
Orange Alert in Delhi for 2 Days
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the national capital, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region on June 28 and 29.
The Met Department predicted similar weather conditions in the Haryana-Chandigarh region during the period. “Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi is likely to get isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on 28th & 29th June, 2024.”
Delhi on Wednesday received light rainfall, providing a bit of relief from the blistering hot and humid conditions. Today's weather in the national capital will be cloudy with light rain or thunderstorms and wind speeds between 25 and 35 kilometres per hour. Over the next few days, similar conditions are expected to prevail.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced to Madhya Pradesh, the North Arabian Sea, additional regions of Gujarat State, South-east Rajasthan, and southern West Uttar Pradesh, according to the weather bureau.
