Bengaluru: The probe in Renukaswamy murder case has revealed that actor Darshan had borrowed Rs 40 lakh to pay off other accused to destroy evidence linked with the murder in order to avoid any police action in future.
The police have seized Rs 40 lakh in cash. Police said that Darshan had borrowed the money from his friend Mohan Raj. The police have mentioned this in the remand application.
The cops are currently on the lookout for Mohan Raj and a notice will be issued asking him to appear for questioning.
The police have collected crucial evidence against Darshan, Vinay, Dhanraj and Pradosh. Darshan, Pradosh and Vinay played a significant role in destroying the evidence in the case. All these accused who have been taken into custody tried their best to cover up the case.
The three accused mentioned above used money power and contacts with VIPs to cover up the case. It is learnt that it was Dhanraj who tortured Renukaswamy by giving him electric shock using a megger device.
Further investigation into where the device was purchased is being investigated.
As probe intensifies into the murder, the scanner also shifted on Pattanagere Jayanna, the man on whose plot the victim was tortured mercilessly which led to his death, as has not paid property tax since 2008, Republic has learned. The notice was served by the BBMP to the plot owner for not paying property tax.
Jayanna has been given 15 days time to reply to the notice. Jayanna will be required to furnish some documents and state reasons as to why tax has not been paid for the last 14 years.
For the unversed, Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga and a fan of the 47-year-old actor Darshan, had allegedly commented on the social media account of Gowda, a small-time actress, accusing her of creating a rift between the actor and his wife. He had also allegedly used "indecent language" and posted offensive messages, according to police sources.
After being kidnapped, Renukaswamy was allegedly beaten up with a belt, and sticks and then thrown against a wall resulting in his death, as chilling details of his murder emerged during the investigation into the case by police, Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his close friend Pavithra Gowda and 11 of his associates were arrested on June 11 in connection with the murder.
