New Delhi: A video of Saweety Boora, the 2023 World Championship gold medal-winning boxer, went viral on social media, showing the boxer thrashing her husband, Deepak Hooda, inside a police station in Hisar, Haryana . The video depicts Saweety grabbing her husband by the collar and jumping on him until others present there intervened and pulled her away.
Saweety Boora was at the police station after being summoned by the police, as she is seeking a divorce from her husband, alleging that Deepak Hooda, the former Indian Kabaddi team captain, was harassing her and demanding dowry.
Following this incident, Deepak Hooda filed a complaint against Saweety Boora, after which she, her father, and other family members were called to the police station and had to stay there for a day. They were later released on bail, as claimed by the boxer.
Speaking exclusively to Republic Media Network about the incident whose video is now viral, Saweety Boora stated that the police had called her on March 15 but did not inform that Deepak Hooda would also be present.
Upon arriving at the police station, an ASI informed her that they intended to mediate a compromise between her and Hooda and send her back with him. Saweety claimed that she told the police she did not want to go with him and alleged that she was forced to sit in front of her husband.
Saweety further stated that she gets triggered due to the presence of her husband which leads to panic attacks, and the same happened that day.
The boxer sensed a conspiracy behind all this asking why did not the police inform her in advance about husband's presence, despite knowing it would trigger her.
Saweety Boora raised concerns about her safety, questioning what could have happened to her or if she had died during the incident. She also mentioned that she has been requesting the CCTV footage of the incident between March 15 to 23, but it has not been provided to her.
Later, a small clip from the incident was released to the public after she held a press conference. Saweety objected to the video, stating that it does not show her father or other family members hitting her husband, despite that they were named in the FIR.
She added that when she and her family provided evidence and filed a complaint against her husband, no FIR was registered.
