Jammu: In a major security breach, a woman was caught carrying a pistol at the holy Bhawan of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on the intervening night of March14-15, 2025, and she has been arrested by Reasi Police.
Women bypassed the security grid that has been put up in Banganga by Police authorities and travelled several kilometres before being apprehended by Police.
The lady has been identified as Jyoti Gupta from New Delhi and is said to be part of Delhi Police, which is being ascertained by J&K Police. Police has registered an FIR at Bhawan Police Station in Katra under Arms act against her.
The license of the weapon she was carrying was an expired one which expired years ago.
Officials said, “Reasi Police apprehended the woman and seized the weapon. Authorities are currently investigating how she managed to breach multiple security checkpoints and reach the Bhawan with a firearm.”
"She is said to be from National Capital and was carrying weapon for her protection, she informed Police," officials added.
Director General J&K Police Nalin Prabhat has taken strong note of the incident and directions have been given to Reasi Police to look into loopholes.
Security arrangements at the shrine have been further tightened in light of the incident, ensuring the safety of pilgrims visiting the sacred site.
